Can’t Wait for the Fall Colors

Yeah. That mostly don’t happen here.

Word has it the heatwave will break this week, and we may get rain, of all things. Fall is my favorite season. I love the snap in the air, the leaves falling, the smell. Down here in North Texas, we really don’t get the full experience. But just a little makes me long for the Blue Ridge. Skyline Drive is something to see in the fall. It’s best to hit it on a weekday morning, early, before the dew and mist clears. Also before the numbnut touristas post and gob up the road.

I was last up there this spring, and even though it was summer, our trips to the Chesapeake and to the mountains, and even to Culpeper, got me longing to return. I may start looking into that, even though Northern Virginia has oozed it’s commie ick all over the place.

Here the leaves are doing the Texas fall thing early:

Look at the leaves.

Just drying up and falling off. That’s what tipping 45+ days of hundred degree heat and no rain do.

Even Brer Squirrel looks like he has had enough:

Doesn’t look like Gordito there has missed any meals though. He was just laying there, immobile, staring into space. I only see birds in the mornings and evenings. I keep my bird feeder and bird bath full for them. I don’t even bother shooing the bees and wasps from the dog water bowl. No reason they should suffer worse than anyone else.

That said, I’m thinking whatever show of colors we would have had won’t be happening.
