A bigger project than I thought

I had high hopes this weekend of clearing out some of the old man hoard pile. My goal is to cut loose the workbench I never use and replace it with shelves. Maybe cut loose the drill press and bandsaw I haven’t used in years. I’m getting over that old man “I may need this someday” and stashing junk away that I never use. A great example of this is my plastic drawers full of nuts and bolts. At one point, they were organized but in two moves, they got shaken up and everything is a jumbled mess.

So I got one of these:

I needed that gauge anyhow. I reasoned that what I need would fit in two organizers from this mess:

I still have the shrink wrap on the dame thing from moving.

It was harder than I thought. Did I really need to save all this? So I sorted the best I could and threw a ton into the recycle bin. Learning to let go, I am. This is what I ended up with:

So there is free space. Some of it anyhow. That there on the left, the chrome thing is a legacy Craftsman timing light. I can’t remember the last time I used that. It’s too nice to sell. It’s out because it was in an ammo can with my dwell-tach meter that I repurposed to hold…get this…ammo. Ammo is my other hoard. That isn’t a bad one to have these days, far as I’m concerned.

What’s funny is I have my electronic soldering stuff out. I thought, hell I can use that empty bin on the top of the shelf for this stuff. So I went to get it down and it was heavy. I thought it was empty. On the back side a label: fasteners.

Wait….wut? I started this sometime ago?

Yup, what was in it was organizers with bolts, screws, pop-rivets and more all mostly in their sorted cases from Harbor Freight or the original boxes. Wow. Yet another “bin of requirement” past me had come up with. Nice. I need a few more bins and some p-touch tape for more than one stinkin’ label.

Not bad for a few hours work. All the other hours were made up of mowing the lawn, cleaning other junk out of the garage, moving plants inside now that it’s colder.

Saturday wiped me out. I’m still under the weather from this ear infection. It seemed to turn the corner Sunday. I took the hardcore Sudafed this time with the battery of other stuff I’m on. Late in the afternoon my ear popped and started clearing out. We’ll see if it lasts the night.
