Dewayne at Tack Room Bible Talk wonders if he’s done.
A few weeks ago, he announced that he and his wife of 34 years or so are getting divorced. Man, oh man, where have I seen that before. Oh! with me, that’s where! As an aside, what’s up with these middle aged women detonating their marriages late in life? Who knows, in my case. In his, he says they’ve been trying to work things out for five years or so. Apparently, she’s nursed a grudge for decades. Who knows. Not my business really. No telling what happens when the tingles go away and the crazy sets in. Many such cases.
I used to watch her channel. But I deleted it. I’m not interested in a thing she has to say. For most of them, however, they jump right on TikTok with their hot takes. They really are legion. So much so that many other YouTubers make good money goofing on them. The worst ones I’ve seen are the women that say “Well, I love him, but I’m not in love with him any more”. What utter bullshit.
Really. You love him?
So you:
- Upheave his life and make it a shambles.
- Make him move out of a house he pays for.
- Take half his assets.
- Force everyone in your life, kids, friends, family, to choose off. You don’t think it’ll happen, but it does.
- If you have kids, restrict his access to them. With adult kids, they’ll choose off or grow weary of dealing with you.
- Make him pay for your lifestyle, even if it’s to take the kids when she wants to date. Yeah. No.
Would you do that to someone you love?
No. You wouldn’t do it to a friend, or even an enemy. Yet, that’s what the rationalization hamster wheel tells them to say. They say this early on. Later come the videos where realization dawns on them.
Whatever. That’s not my point really.
Dewayne is thinking out loud whether that puts him in a position where he shouldn’t comment on scripture or even life lessons in his other channel. In the end, he decides it’s a calling and he’ll continue. I agree with him. No one is perfect, without sin. And honestly, I prefer listening to those that have the bumps and scars of life on them. In my faith, I much prefer priests that have lived life a bit before following their calling. My last three pastors had lives before following that path. One didn’t follow the call until his early forties. He had a career. One was an engineer, had a girlfriend an in the process of teaching the faith to her, found he was meant to be a priest. Dumped her and went into the seminary. My current pastor is an Air Force vet. They have a more real perspective on life.
I run into seminarians all the time. There were two at my parish this year. One had graduated with a biomed degree and was out working. He’s a great guy, very garrulous, easy to talk with. He’ll do great. The other, notsomuch. He went to seminary straight out of high school, and it shows. He was at an event that I attended recently. Came up to say hi and chat. It’s like he knew he needed to hobnob, but had nothing to say. Kind of odd dude. One of the men I know works part time at the church. We had a conversation about the two, and he labeled that dude a mama’s boy. Makes sense. The difference between socialization in the real world and not really stands out. Life’s too short and that job is too tough to be an introverted loner.
So I’m with Dewayne. He never claimed he had all the answers, nor claimed guru status. He’s human like all of us. He’s not some sort of hypocrite preacher or pharisee. Good thing. I’ve seen way to many of them.
I enjoy his talks and his take on things. I relate to the guy. He’s like me. He didn’t ask for it. Didn’t want it. Yet here we are. He’s talked about maybe holding men’s retreats. If he does, I’m there.
