I love the stories about the World Cup visitors coming here and finding out all the great things about our country. It’s the big thing these days to have stories about it. I especially like the videos I’ve been watching, where the visitors are sampling Texas BBQ, marveling over the stadiums, highways and stores. They are learning that what they heard about America was mostly a lie.
Right on queue, we have our perpetual malcontents, DEI division, chiming in:
It’s more than left wing indoctrination here. This is mental illness. Maybe she’d like to take a gaggle of visitors to the ‘hood so they can observe the local color first hand? Would them getting shot at and mugged warm her heart? If when the visitors went into a Wendy’s and there was a chimp-out and brawl, would she feel justified not being proud then? Or would she be as mortified as the rest of us would be?
I’m really sick of these people and their jaw dropping solipsism and ignorance. Imbued in that ignorance is that they have no earthly idea how the rest of the world is. Starting with the ability to vent this bullshit on X. In other countries she could damn well wind up in jail.
I have two perspectives on this; First is that people are still flocking here from all over to get a better life. Why does she think that is, if she’s thinking at all? Many of them barely speak english, but somehow they do OK for themselves (honestly or dishonestly). I worked with Vietnamese back in the 80s that had to flee. Came here, learned the language, found work (they are great workers), their kids all went to higher education and are doctors and other professionals. One of the told me “This country’s great! The harder you work, the more money you make. Nobody screws with you” It was a moment of clarity for me.
The second is the gob-smacking ingratitude. As I wrote awhile back, I had to move my Girl back to Reynosa. A lot has been good, like being with family and getting back in touch with neighbors and friends. She found a contract gig across the border that pays her bills while she looks for a better job. But, they have to be mindful of where they go and when due to the crime. She doesn’t live in a bad area, but she still can hear gunfire some nights. Drive around during the day and you’ll see military here and there, locked and loaded. There are no lawns that I saw. Every house has it’s own compound – high walled, usually brick/concrete, fence with gates that they lock always. I’ve only seen that here in some areas of Houston that were once nice but went sour.
She’s been there maybe two months, and the water has cut out at least 3-4 times. Her power has gone out a few times. As I write this on Sunday, it’s still out. A transformer blew. That shit would be fixed in a few hours here. We had a few all day outages back in April from a storm. The crews have been out trimming trees, and now I have a note that Oncor (the infrastructure people) will be around surveying the lines for maintenance and upgrade so this doesn’t happen again. That doesn’t happen there. Sunday night she told me it was a blown transformer and they have none in town. Hope they didn’t ship all the transformers to Ukraine.
How would you like living in a city where all of a sudden you can’t shower or flush the crapper? Forget that you can’t drink the water out of the tap, and your power keeps going out, ruining all your food in the fridge. The internet is wonky so you have to go to a coffee shop to get on line. Shouldn’t she be proud that, unlike a lot of other places in the world, we get to enjoy 24×7 services. You know, a large ton of them have no AC. The europeans are going to return home to a broiler. You know why not one as been on video complaining about the Texas heat? Because we handle it here.
I’ve been to grocery stores in other countries. The biggest was maybe a quarter the size, if that, of the HEB a few miles from my house. I live in a far suburb, almost an exurb, of Dallas and Fort Worth. Yet, in a two mile radius of me is HEB, Walmart, and Tom Thumb. One more mile, there is an Aldi, Sprouts, Sams, and Kroger. I have two Mexican carnacerias that I can walk to. Isn’t that cool? I won’t even go into my restaurant options as they are legion.
This woman is bubbling because others see the cool things here, and she doesn’t like being reminded that this is one of best places on the planet, especially for the indigenous population (IPs) like her. It’s like she’s dying of thirst, all the time standing knee deep in running water and complaining that others aren’t thirsty. And the only reason is her indoctrination told her so.
I won’t even get into those that visited and marveled at Buc-cee’s, Cabelas, and Bass Pro. They are marvels that should make you swell with pride. These aren’t just stores, they’re events.
I’ve really lost my appetite for doltish and often mentally ill women talking to a camera, gibbering stupidity and emoting.
Amen. I have a colleague that came to the US from the Soviet Union when he was a boy. He was utterly dumbfounded… he told me the first time he visited a Bread Aisle in the grocery store it nearly brought him to tears.
These spoiled brat participation trophy champions are so utterly un… er… misinformed… or to your point indoctrinated to the point of having a nearly schizophrenic view of reality is actually quite frightening.
