Here we go again.

Found on my NextDoor feed:

It’s a snake. So what.

I don’t know what kind of snake this is. So I asked Grok.

This is a Bullsnake (Pituophis catenifer sayi), also known as a gopher snake.

Bullsnakes are one of the largest native snakes in Texas (and North America), often reaching 4–6 feet long, with some growing over 8 feet. They’re non-venomous constrictors

They eat rodents, mostly. Ergo, a beneficial predator to have around, not unlike possums.

I’ve never been to that neighborhood, as it looks like it’s in Desoto. But it looks like mine, without sidewalks and whatnot. Just a look on the map shows a lot of green space/fields around.

Look, you see this all the time from the locusts down here. Usually it’s about bobcats or coyotes. These developments are built on what was prairie. Built in these animals habitat. They simply adapted. This snake, as well as bobcats, are around because there are rats, rabbits, squirrels, and all sort of critters around for it to eat. Take it to the zoo and another will show up soon enough. You can be in Dallas or Fort Worth proper and still run into these animals.

The funniest one I saw was a video from a .Indian dude horrified that a family of bobcats was passing through his back yard. And that’s what they did. Popped up over the fence, wandered across his lawn, and up over the other side. It’s what they do. They are never interested in you whatsoever. None of these animals are, generally. Leave them alone, they’ll leave you alone.

My suggestion is that if you are a citified locust and don’t like the Texas wildlife, leave. Go back from whence you came.
