Getting Fit

I’ve been getting a lot of “Exercises for Old Men” videos in my YouTube feed, most with Kettle Bells. I was listening to a Rogan podcast the other day where he said those are his main type of workout.

I don’t have kettle bells. I have dumbbells.

Kettle Bells are not inexpensive. Still, it seemed worth it to add to my workouts. So I found an adjustable kettle bell at Play it Again Sports for less than the price of two pig iron ones.

Goes from 8 to 45 lbs.

Monday was my first full workout with the thing. Normally, I get through a workout OK. Maybe get a little sore as the evening progresses. With the additional exercises, I was knackered. The next morning I was a little sore, but my entire body felt tight and fit. So it works.

My workout days look like this:

  • 8-10 mile bike ride. Usually at lunch time.
  • Then weights / workout at the end of the day:
    • Incline pushups – 3×10 reps
    • Tricep Dips – 3×10
    • Decline pushups – 3×6. That one sucks.
    • Hanging leg lifts – 3×5
    • Kettle bell swings – 3×12
    • Kettle bell halo – 3×10
    • Kettle bell tricep extensions – 3×10. These I do on the bench, my rotator cuff won’t allow standing for this.
    • Curls (with a curl bar) – 3×10
    • Bench press – 3×10
    • Deadlift – 3×6
    • Kettle bell goblet squat – 3×5
    • Barbell squat – 3×5
    • Farmers carry with dumbells – 3 x 50 steps.

Takes an hour or so. Not bad for an old pharte. It’s nice to see that when I change up a workout, I feel results.

I slept like a baby that night.
