It’s a new month, a new weigh in. I’m at 200. Where I’ve been for months, mas o menos*. Doesn’t matter what I do, my weight doesn’t vary more than a pound either way.
I’m not all that hung up on it. I’ve had a great run lifting, and am seeing some serious changes in my shoulders, arms, and chest as well as thighs. My clothes are loose. Some of them too loose, as an XL shirt’s neck seems too large for me. I wear them because I don’t like clingy clothes.
Since the weather cooled, running is a treat as long as I remember my calf compression band. I don’t need it to run. But it makes recovery faster. I’m back in the zone where when I’m running, I’m not overheating, so my mind wanders and I lose track of how many laps I’ve done. So I run more like 4 miles instead of just over three.
I’ve also added a Friday ride on the new mountain bike. It’s really pleasant under the trees on the trails, and the thing is geared better to rock up hills. I had to get a better saddle, since the stock one was impinging on my nuts. Or, my perineum to be exact. Can’t have the manly hydraulics starved for circulation whilst riding.
Last week, I ratcheted up my weight, adding lbs to every lift. So now, I’m at 120 for squats, deadlifts, and bench – 3 sets of 10. I’m still concentrating on form rather than raw weight. I’m up to 60 lbs curls, which has my destroyed shoulder complaining. Then there are the 3×10 sets, two types of pushups, Dips, and leg raise crunches on the dip rack.
Remember, I’m nearly 63. I bike 3X a week, Run 2x, and walk the pups 1.5 miles every morning.
That said, I’m at the point where I probably need to be in a gym, with a proper squat rack and maybe other humans around if I blow it. I can lift enough to hold my head up around the fellas. There’s a serious gym in an industrial park on the edge of my neighborhood that appears to have reasonable plans. Maybe I check that out this week. Going there would be cheaper than an Olympic weight set and squat rack.
I have to say, it’s awesome to be a tanned and fit 63 year old dude. I like having a straight back, almost no belly, and a great energy level.
My lowering caffeine, both tea and coffee, intake to only 2 cups per day has been working. It did what I needed it to do. If I need something more for my destroyed throat, I make lemon ginger tea.
Now, if I could only stop the skin on my bald noggin from drying out and flaking.
