Happy Veteran’s Day

Turns out, I have the day off today.

Who knew?

I found out on a conference call, which caused me to check the HR site.

So I spent the morning at the school with my brother Knights serving breakfast the veterans that showed up to talk to the kids. This consisted of standing around looking important as the guys pretty much had things under control.

There were over sixty vets that came. One of my friends was an F-4 pilot. They handed him a card with where he was supposed to give a talk. He wasn’t ready for that, but he’ll rock it. Flew an F-4 Phantom? How could you not?

There were all kind of vets there. One or two from the Korean war. I didn’t see one of the other guys I know that was in Vietnam. Super mild mannered, nice guy. You’d think accountant of some type.

He was a door gunner. Wow.

It was great to see these guys being honored. But we should still remember those that fell.

This day used to be called Armistice Day, from WW1. Still called ‘Rememberance Day” in the old country.

One of Mark Knopfler’s best tunes is about it, called “Rememberance Day”. Makes sense.

On your maypole green
See the winding Morris men
Angry Alfie Bill and Ken
Waving hankies sticks and books
All the earthen roofs

Standing at the crease
The batsman takes a look around
The boys are fielding on home ground
The steeple sharp against the blue
When I think of you

Sam and Andy
Jack and John
Charlie Martin
Jamie Ron
Harry Stephen
Will and Don
Matthew Michael

On and on

We will remember them
Remember them
Remember them

We will remember them
Remember them
Remember them

Time has slipped away
The summer sky to autumn yields
A haze of smoke across the fields
Let’s sup and fight another round
And walk the stublbed ground

When November brings
The poppies on remembrance day
When the vicar comes to say
May god bless them every one
Lest we forget our sons

We will remember them
Remember them
Remember them

We will remember them
Remember them
Remember them
