A walk in the park

I’ve been out of town for three weekends in a row. This is the first weekend in nearly a month that I’ve been home. It’s also the first in over two years that I haven’t been with the Girl. I found myself with time on my hands. I got back from DC Thursday, and had to spend a few days cleaning up the place around there. It’s been raining, and that means paw prints all over the house.

Sunday I was up early. Matter of fact, I’ve been sleeping like a rock lately and thus have been able to be up early, often before the alarm goes off.

Every morning I walk the pups about a mile an a half on a route that goes around the church. On weekends, I’ve walked them in the Girl’s neighborhood. Being home on a Sunday, I figured it best to avoid the crowds at the church and take the pups to the park. It’s been forever that they’ve gotten to explore a new place.

Shot out of a cannon doesn’t do it justice. It rained the night before, and the trail was damp and full of things to smell.

This is the same trail I ride during the week. I’ve never walked it. It’s a really pretty park.

There were a number of folks taking advantage of the cool morning to walk. More than a few walking dogs, which was a blessing. My two need to spend more time around strangers and dogs they don’t know. They were really well behaved, both mine and the others.

From the parking lot to the top of the hill, it’s exactly one mile.

It’s a decent size hill that’s a struggle on a bike. Not so bad, but still tough on foot. I don’t think the dogs have ever had to go up a hill. BTW, it’s quite a drop off that ledge. I’ve seen more than one dumbass on the other side of that fence near the ledge. It’s slopes down and is pretty loose dirt. I don’t need to see the edge, to be honest. Nor do the dogs.

In all, we went about two miles, hill and all. These two were knackered at the end of it and spent the day lounging around, snoozing their morning off. Me? Notsomuch. I had tons of work to do around the house.

I think this’ll be a thing. I’ll do the dog park on Saturdays, and the park on Sundays. These guys need to associate some fun stuff with getting in the truck.
