New space

Not long after I started working at home (2005) I bought a cheap “L” shaped desk at Office Depot. I’ve had that desk through 4 moves and 20 years. In the new place, it was replaced by a far nicer desk. So it sat in the other corner as sort of a project space.

More accurately, a place that accumulated junk.

So I did an upgrade. Bought a nice project chair, and then later, a standing desk. Behold:

I moved the folding table with the laser etcher over, and the area is now a project zone. In the far corner you can see my retired tower that runs the etcher software. I have the MAC version, but this is more convenient. Mostly I use my Thinkpad on the desk and use it instead. I’m sure there’s etcher software for it. I think the package I have has a Linux version.

The last addition was the regulator wall clock. I have another manual clock in the living room. I like the tik-tock-tick-tock of a manual clock. Most of what I could find were fake. They have an electronic movement that makes the pendulum move, as well as 437 different chimes.

Screw that.

I got that on Ebay for like $60. Although the seller packed it really well, somehow UPS managed to smash the glass clock face. I was about to go Defcon 1 on them, then I found replacement glass for $10. Really not worth the time or hassle. It’s on it’s way. Cool how it’s “Vintage”, yet it still tells accurate time. It has a simple 1 chime on the 1/2 hour, and bongs a chime with the number of hours on the hour.

I took the cheap Walmart wall clock that was there and moved it to the garage where I can see the time as I work out.

I don’t know what it is, but the clock and desk changed the whole character of my office/man cave.

Worth every penny. (which wasn’t much)
