Uh…Don’t think so

We all have heard the tales of talking about this or that product and suddenly you’re getting ads for that product on your TV, phone, amazon app, whatnot.

I’ve been having that happen with a concept lately, rather than a product. I heard it on a Rogan podcast. I’ve seen it written. I heard it from Fr. Dan Reehil (he’s a youtube guy) at a men’s conference. It was this: Sure Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but she really didn’t know. She didn’t exist when God told Adam not to eat from that tree.

Huh?

First off, I don’t recall that tree coming up in Genesis until she ate from it. The passage in question is:

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

So in verse #3 is the smoking gun. She knew not to eat from that tree, yet she did it anyhow. I don’t see what the point is by removing agency from Eve. If God didn’t tell her, Adam must have.

As far as Rogan is concerned, that’s just pig ignorance. The good father should know better. The point of the talk was spiritual warfare and what it means to be a Catholic man in today’s world. He could’ve gotten there without saying she didn’t know, wasn’t there. The real point was that Adam simped out and simply ate the fruit his old lady gave him, rather than keeping his woman in line.

Did he know it was from that tree? It doesn’t say. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he wasn’t around to yell at her and ask WTF she’s thinking.

The real point of the talk was that we men have responsibility to be the head of our families and lead. Still, it dulls the point to let the woman off the hook here. It was wrong. She knew it was wrong. She did it anyhow.

That seems to be an Modus Operandi here these days.
