Well, it’s rainin’ here in Texas…
We’ve been having storms in the evenings last couple days, which is nice. It’s been warm, sunny, with a breeze each day so I can get my runs and biking in. Then, as I’m chilling at night, the storms come.
Storms during the day means I’ll have a big black dog hunkering under my desk where my feet should be. Aria isn’t a fan of storms. Night time is different. She’ll snuggle up to me in bed, which is nice.
They’ve been pretty loud, with a stray hail stone or two so far. I can deal with that.
The weather people have been right on the money about when this would start, the springtime storm season. I took the opportunity to fertilize the lawn I don’t own. Screwit, I like having a lawn and it costs peanuts.
Wednesday, we had the first big storm roll in around 4pm. Then, it went away with the experts telling us it would be back around 6pm or so. This is right when I’d be arriving at Church to teach faith formation to the chulrins.
Right on queue, it showed up just as I parked the truck. No big deal. I knew it was coming, I was prepared. I have an umbrella that lives in my truck anyhow.
Here’s the funny thing – Not one adult. Not one kid of any age had any raingear on whatsoever. Not one umbrella. After the class I teach, I help out with a fellowship hour with the high school kids. I look forward to that. I love the small group, where I – the grizzled old man – can impart my wisdom and knowledge. Not one kid there, not one adult had any rain gear, and we were scheduled to hit the church, which is across the street. Stunning. Same sort of thing happens when it’s cold. Few have winter jackets. Doesn’t make any sense.
It’s temperate here, but it does get very cold for a few days at a time and stays chilly for weeks.
Sure, it’s semi arid here. But it does rain, and when it does, it rains bigly. So it makes sense to have an umbrella handy. It also makes sense to get a decent rain jacket. This year I upgraded my gear and bought a fancy 3-mode jacket. Behold:

This thing is crazy waterproof. It’s got a thin fleece liner, but also came with a fleece hoodie, which attaches inside. So it can be super warm. You can wear just the jacket, just the hoodie, or combined – hence, 3-way. I like how the cuffs velcro rather than have elastic bands. This means I can use it on the bike without it puffing up. Very cool.
I think I saw it on the facebook. So I copied the link (I use safari for facebook) and copied it to my main browser (brave) to open. Couldn’t tell you who I got it from, just that it came as advertised.
As I write this it’s Thursday night. No rain today, but we are expected to have showers, some severe, starting this afternoon and lasting all through the weekend.
I’ll be ready.
