Done with Walmart

Made the mistake of hitting Walmart yesterday.

Dumb move.

I was only there for two things; Primo water refills, and Biotene spray, the spray I use to keep my throat from drying out at night.

First thing out of the gate, I walked in with my empty water bottles, saw there were only two left, so I turned to get a cart to grab the bottles. I was five feet away and a black dude ran up in front of me and snatched the two away. Followed by helpfully telling me the other stand had none.

Lovely.

So I walked the empties back to my truck, grumbling, and went back in for my spray. Soon as I passed the gate, I noticed that they had sweet potatoes on sale, so I grabbed them, a few avocados, and some lettuce and headed to the pharmacy only to see they had no spray.

Lovely.

I’m a man of pet peeves. If a store doesn’t have what I came for, I leave. Even if I picked up other things, I leave. Put the shit back and leave. So I stood there for a minute with my heart filling with hate, thinking that I need to drop this crap off and leave. This time, I didn’t. I went to the checkout where as I entered I passed right next to another black dude waving his arms and talking to what appeared to be himself, but it was on a mobile, as his friend checked out.

Fuck me.

I paid for my crap and left. As I finished, this pair passed me, both of them now on their mobiles.

Whatever.

I backed out and went to hit CVS, maybe they have my spray (they didn’t). I had to weave around this:

Dude put his stuff in his car, drove forward to the other aisle, leaving the cart right where it was.

He was literally across from the cart drop-off but couldn’t be bothered. This is typical, although they normally leave the cart in a space.

I’m done with WalMart again. This one is too ghetto for me. I can afford to go elsewhere. The only reason I go there at all is for the water bottles and that spray, which is way cheaper here than elsewhere. I used to get oil and filters there, but I’ve been using Wix filters, which they don’t have, and I’ll pay a few extra bucks to buy a higher quality oil at O’Reilly or AutoZone. By the way, those were only the two most memorable incidents. I won’t go over what it was like to weave around the other indigenous population whilst there.

I was close by Tom Thumb, which is probably the most expensive grocery around. They didn’t have the spray, but they had the water bottles for the same damn price, only far cleaner.

It’s worth the few extra shekels to avoid the shitty congested parking lot with carts all over it, deal with the local color, and not have what I want.

  1. Adventures at the Wal*Mart. It’s no surprise that sites like peopleofwalmart dot com exist for sure My experiences with various Walmarts across the country have varied far and wide. A most recent was the amazing TWO STOREY Walmart just outside of Boston. The entire first floor was a PARKING GARAGE and the store itself, a GRAND supercenter, was upstairs. An elevator or escalator got you there and they even had a fancy “Cart” escalator to send your full cart down after checkout. Amazing. Spotless and civilized. However, NO PLASTIC BAGS at checkout. They are apparently illegal in MA. Paper bags were there gratis.

The Wal*Marts in and around Orlando Florida? Sheer MADNESS.

Any Walmart in propinquity with or IN any “County Seat” (read – parasite heavy area) will be replete with any number of bizarre characters. The Super Center on 206 in Newton NJ had a regular cast of characters that never disappointed.

GIBSONTON FLORIDA… Where all of the Side-Show Circus People have “retired” to. Herself INSISTED we stop at that one on a return journey from the Port of Tampa one day. Unfortunately, it was early in the day. Generally, the “differently-abled” are instructed to go out late at night to shop and yes, that is a real thing they are taught.

As to Product Availability issues, I am fully in your camp. Here in SW Florida it vascillates WILDLY depending on “Season”. What the locals call “Snowbird Season”. It’s not just Walmart either. Getting a Dr. appt between October and June? HA.

The complexity of Parking Lot navigation at the Walmart here? LOL… Add to that the “Season”al drivers we have. That is MADNESS. I used to drive (and ride) the winding, hilly roads of the Pocono Mountains and Shawangunk ranges in PA and NY very successfully. In fact, most folks in the area did so. What I don’t get is why on earth here in SW FL where the roads are arrow straight and pancake flat the majority of accidents are ROLLOVERS?

And to that point, I will say that one time during a busy Christmas Season, I pulled in to the Newton, NJ Walmart to witness the culmination of a dispute over a parking spot where a full size SUV was quite literally on TOP of the hood of a full sized sedan IN said spot.

Sometimes you do have to take a break from The WalMart. Other times, you have to mitigate your “expectations” OF the WalMart… after all…

    “Expectations are just pre-meditated resentments.”

It’s Wal*Mart after all. 😉 What DO you really expect?
