Nope. Not Doing It.

I’m a man of pet peeves.

One of those is I get irritated when I go to spend a wad of cash, and no one posts to take it. I called the transmission shop – twice. The first time to get a ballpark for fixing a leaky seal. That came to $1250 to start. I figured, OK, why not? It’s about what I expected, and I’d just as soon get it done. I’ve spent nearly nothing on this truck other than oil changes. So, dude says just call before you drop it off.

Monday, I call to tell them I’m dropping it off. Dude asks why?

Huh?

He said that was in case it was coming in on a tow truck. If it’s mobile, just come by. OK whatever. Tuesday I swing by, go into the shop. No one around. The door chimed “Front door”, so I assumed someone was paying attention.

So I waited.

Then I wandered around. Nowhere to go. Just a locked door to the shop itself. So I walk in and out the door to trigger the notification.

Nothing.

Then I call to ask WTF is going on. It goes to voicemail. I can hear the staff in the back.

I’m out. Fuggit.

The Oatmeal

I’m not chasing people down to shove money in their pockets.

So what I’m going to do is pop to cover on the bell housing, clean it out with Brake-Kleen, as well as clean the exhaust pipe. Then, I’ll check in a few days to get the scope of the problem. I’m going to guess that since I don’t see smoke from it unless I’m on the highway, the pipe hasn’t gotten hot enough, or more likely, the fluid pools for a few weeks until I have a need to get back to North Dallas, then dumps. I don’t drive the thing every day, and even then I don’t go more than a few miles.

Otherwise, there are more shops to go to. I’ll go to someone that wants my money.

  1. We wanted to remodel/refurbish the master bath. Had 4 outfits come by at various times to have a look and give estimates. Got ghosted by three of them. They never got back to us and never answered emailed or texts. ??? 4th’s estimate was crazy high IMO so we tried one more place. Slightly more reasonable, but not by much. But they did show up and answered their phones so they got the job.
Their work has been … good-ish. Getting the last few little things done is taking forever.

I guess most of these places have too much work and too much money already?

  2. My hearing is poor, even with hearing aids, so I don’t own a phone. I communicate via email. If a vendor does not offer an email address then I move on to the next one. If a vendor does not reply to my emails then I move on to another one. They don’t want my money then I go look for someone that does.
