One of the series I binge watched when I was recovering from Cancer therapy was “Locked Up Abroad”.
The premise is simple. Doofuses go to another country, think they are still in America or will be treated differently because they are American, break the law, and get a taste of the local flavor of punishment of whatever country they’re in.
Every one of them, a numbnut. I think my favorite was a dude that had a buddy mail a load of hash to him in South Korea. The stupid was intense with this one. Somewhere along the line, I think his friend got busted. That was clue #1. Still, whatever could go wrong? Probably OK to hit the post office. Amiright?
Dude gets to the post office, and there’s all sorts of dudes in the lobby, casually reading newspapers.
Probably nothin’ though.
Dude asks for his package. Clerk delivers it, and scrams.
Probably nothin’.
Then they pounce, and he winds up in prison. Eventually, they deport him because he convinced them the whole stash was for him. He’s hopelessly addicted, doncha’ know.
We saw that not long ago with Brittney Griner. Joe Rogan mewled endlessly – “It’s only CBD oil! WTF!” The Russians thought otherwise.
So I get this story in my feed; Saudi Arabia Keeps Executing Foreigners On Drug Charges At ‘Horrifying’ Rate
Is that so?
The kingdom executed 1,816 people between January 2014 and June 2025, according to the official Saudi Press Agency. Of those, nearly one third (597) were for drug-related offences, which may not be punishable by death under international human rights law and norms. Around three quarters of those executed for drug offences were foreign nationals.
Seems low.
So far this year, 180 people have been executed. Last month alone, 46 executions were carried out, 37 of which were for drug-related offences.
They were made up of nationals from Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Syria. In January 2021, Riyadh had announced a moratorium on drug related-executions, but that was lifted in November the following year.
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess those nationals aren’t exactly the brightest bulbs in their countries. That said, I’m pretty sure the world knows not to bring any contraband to Saudi Arabia, including alcohol. It’s not like that’s some huge secret. I’m pretty sure the info is out there when you make your travel plans. I worked for a studio, back in the day, that shipped content to American’s working in Saudi Arabia. They’d have their people spend time over there running the TV gear to pipe in American shows. Everyone, but everyone, knew the rules.
Love that line: which may not be punishable by death under international human rights law and norms.
So what? It’s their shop. They run it as they see fit. And I’m sure ‘international human rights law’ only pertains to clown world countries.
Don’t go there with drugs.
Don’t go there with your rainbow ways.
Matter of fact, you’d do well, if you were a guy, to not look sideways at their women.
Maybe respect a country’s laws, morals, and traditions for once.
