A Momentous Event.

I missed this whilst driving to Plano the other day:

The old girl passed 100K.

It runs beautifully. My only complaint is that there’s so much space inside, it takes both the front and rear air awhile to cool down. Works better when I use a sunshade, and open the windows an hour or two before I plan on leaving.

When stuck in traffic, I’ve been noticing smoke, as well as smelling it when I park. I finally located the source – a leak from the transmission front seal. It’s dripping from the bellhousing to the top of the crossover pipe.

Dang it.

It’s to be expected, I suppose. It’s 25 years old. Seals get hard and leak. Lucky for me there’s a highly rated transmission shop not a mile away as the crow flies. I’ll swing by next week and get an estimate.

Can’t have my shit drippin’.

BTW – while under I noticed the beast is sporting 3″ pipes.

I guess I should have expected it also since my Class ‘C’ RV is also 25 years old but I really was not ready to replace the Ford V10 that has been powering her for 85K miles.

The V10 has had a checkered history and the rebuilt engine is not under warranty if put in an RV. But, if I can get another 85K miles out of this one and can live long enough to do it then it is money well spent.

  2. Sunshades… and VENT visors that allow you to leave the windows open a skosh are a must here in SW FlawDUH. Makes a HUGE difference in the heat.

When I was commuting 80 miles per day from PA to NJ I would burn through vehicles like they were nothing. ALWAYS upside down on the damn loans. 100K miles was nothing in 2.5 to 3 years and that was with riding the hell out of the Drifter during the summer months.

Now? the current ride, a 2019 model I procured in October of 2018 just rolled past 50K miles. Granted, the year of Covidiocy it basically was parked.

I JUST replaced the brake pads. Second set of tires on it. It’s always sported very soft “Summer” performance tires and here I’m glad they wear out quickly. I’ve never seen so many BLOWOUTS as I have since moving to SW FL. Lots of… elder folks that drive very little so a lot of OLD tires that are dried out and while they have no miles or wear on them they are just ROASTED.

As to leaking seals… Yeah… at 66 year of age I sometimes have a seal or two that leak unexpectedly.
