Spoke Too Soon…

The other day I was chirping about adding a Friday run.

Turns out Nemesis may have appeared to deal with my hubris.

After Friday’s runs, my legs and calves are tight. Usually it goes away. This last Monday, I didn’t get out to run until later, and things had heated up pretty good. Meh…I went anyway.

The heat was punishing, and my legs didn’t like it one bit. But I pushed on. I paid the price for that idiocy. It took a long time to recover. Such that even my ride and weightlifting the next day was tough. Seemed OK though. Just drink more hydration drink and pop a few Tylenol.

No pain, no gain, amiright?

Running Wednesday was a disaster. Lap one I got a knot in my left calf. Finished the lap, walked a bit, and started lap two. Maybe I can run through it and it’ll loosen up.

Nope. That’s a big nope. A little over halfway and it was apparent that not only wasn’t I going to run through it, I was probably causing no small amount of damage. That was a damn shame, since it was cloudy and cool. Great running weather for here. So I limped back to the house.

And limped the rest of the day.

Stretching was helping, but not enough. I had a meeting at night that I wanted to take the hotrod bike to, but I decided discretion was the better part of valor. I didn’t want to risk having to flex that sore muscle and having to deal with a bike on the ground. The next morning, walking the pups was tough, but my legs loosened up enough by the end.

Bike riding today seemed to help. As long as I’m not flexing my calf, like in a calf raise, it’s ok. I decided that lifting was probably a bad move this afternoon. I’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

Maybe it’s time for a week off.
