Knowing So Much That Isn’t True

I like listening to Joe Rogan. He has good guests, generally from both sides of the aisle. Normally, he prompts well thought out conversation. Usually, even the weirdos like Bernie Sanders can explain their wrong headed ideas, at least on an intellectual level.

Enter James Talarico, Moron, Democrat in the Texas House.

I was listening to them banter as I lifted weights. And every subject that came up had me hollering at the Bluetooth speaker.

Ten Commandments posted?
Apparently the legislature here voted to have the ten commandments in school rooms. Our pal here balked at this. Even though he’s in seminary, he had a problem with separation of church and state with a Christian poster being displayed in chulrin’s classroom.

Look, they aren’t ‘Christian’. Those are in the Torah. And I’d argue that it’s the same if you posted the golden rules, innit? These two geniuses think that posting these things will backfire and cause more kids to become atheist because it’s shoved down their throats and all. I don’t think it affects the kids one way or another if they are simply posted, yet none of the teachers put it in the curriculum or talk about it. By the way, they should be there, as should study of all different religions and their practices. You need to know how other cultures work. I’m not mooslim, but I find it useful to know the difference between Sunnis, Shias, Alawhites, Sufis et all as well as Buddhism, Sikhism, all that stuff. It helps in understanding the context of peoples over the centuries of history and even today.

I can tell you by having three kids, that if it’s not going to be on a test, it’s not on their radar whatsoever.

The bible doesn’t consider homosexuality a sin or aberrant.

Oh? The passages he used were from Leviticus. Apparently, ‘Lying’ with another man isn’t fully defined. We can’t be sure what the writer meant, since back then, that may have meant something different than what everyone has understood for thousands of years. Really?

  • Lev 15:33 – Purification after ‘lying’ with an unclean woman
  • Lev 18 – You shall not lie with a male as with a woman.

The whole chapter is more explicit and uses the word intercourse interspersed with lying. So, we can be pretty certain what the Jews back then considered ‘lying’. For what it’s worth, it’s also in Romans, to some extent. He said also that Jesus had nothing to say about it, so it’s OK. Well, he does that a bit – not mentioning, especially when it involved what everyone knew to be an abomination. The Pharisees and scribes were the ones testing him, and they would never have brought that up as it would’ve been something they all agreed on, being in the Torah and whatnot.

A seminarian would know that you would have to consider who wrote what book, and who was the audience. For instance, from that I understand (I don’t think I’m wrong) the synoptic gospels (Matt, Mark, & Luke) the audience was Jews, so they don’t mention details that the audience would mostly know. John’s was geared towards gentiles. This is why he goes into more detail, like in the beginning when he’s listing the lineage of Jesus. This is also why the notes in a study bible are useful.

Using the Bible to justify his pro-choice stance

In Genesis, it says God breathed life into Adam. Ipso facto, a baby is not alive until it’s first breath. No mention that the Jews back then didn’t have the level of science we enjoy today, where we can see and hear the heartbeat, see the development of a fully separate human. I’d argue that because the child hasn’t breathed yet, that doesn’t give one license to destroy it. We know it’s not ‘just a clump of tissue’. Kidding yourself about that doesn’t change what it is.

Also, since Mary “consented to have a child”, all rests with consent to bear the child.
I’d argue that the sloppy logic he uses here applies to all women when they sleep with a dude – In today’s world “let it be done to me” by dropping your drawers is implied consent. Since both parties understand what can happen, consent for the two are not separate. Note that Mary was born for this task. Catholics refer to this as the immaculate conception. Yet, she still had free will, as do all women. That was an ignorant reading like the others. What the hell kind of seminary is this imbecile attending?

Voter ID is unfair, disenfranchises people.
This is a tired canard. Texas has had voter ID laws for some time. You have to present an ID of some sort to vote. There are a number of acceptable IDs for this. So he wondered why a concealed carry permit is acceptable, and a college ID isn’t?

Well, idiot, its because a concealed carry is issued by the same authority as the driver license, namely Texas DPS (The state police). A college ID is handed to a student whether or not they are a resident of the state. If the student is a Texas in-state resident, they most certainly have a valid ID.

He moaned how hard it is to get an ID.

Bullshit.
If you can get to a liquor store and buy a forty, you can waddle to a DPS office and apply for an ID. Hell, my girl’s adult autistic son has one. How hard. Here’s the deal – if you are too thick to get an id, something you need to cash checks, open a bank account, even enter a courthouse to pay your jaywalking ticket, you don’t need to be voting. Work on getting your shit together first.

Another one of his idiot points was that since young people moved a bunch that their registration didn’t follow them, especially if they move to a different county. More bullshit. I moved from Collin County to Dallas County, back to Colling, then to Tarrant. When I changed the address on my license, each time it asked if I’d like to register to vote. I checked it, and was registered without lifting a finger.

People need and want careers, not jobs.

Everyone he knows, everyone he grew up with wanted a career and deserved one. So the least among us want this as well. This is a total Pollyanna view. I’d argue that the bottom rungs on the class ranks in any high school have no thought about a career, let alone wanting a job.

We have people that have zero interest in working whatsoever. There’s a large population that cannot get a job, much less a career and don’t really want one. Many come from generations that have never worked a day in their lives. We have programs out the wazoo. We have course paths in high school that can set you up. They don’t do them, they don’t finish.

We have many others that didn’t have thought one of where they wanted to go after school and built no skills or work habits whatsoever. When they are lucky enough to score a job, they torment their unlucky employer with rotten habits, and un-trainability.

But what if the cure for cancer is trapped in the mind of a kid in a low income school?

Uh. No. No it isn’t. There isn’t anything that goes on in that head of theirs. That’s the problem. Even funnier, he went on about his sister’s new career being a stay at home mom. Should we pay her for that? That isn’t a career, that’s a vocation. It’s different.

I made it maybe halfway before I had my fill. They were droning on about college loans and how these kids are now debt serfs. The cognitive dissonance is jaw dropping here. This exact thinking, that everyone deserves a college education, a career, whatever, is why they took over the college funding and gave loans to imbeciles that wasted their time and our money and now cannot find a job, let alone a career.

I’d also add that I think the vig on a college loan for Obamacare is 2%. That’s why the rates are higher, that’s why they won’t forgive them.

They did this. People like him did this.

Sad thing is that this is an idiot that can talk purdy, and his constituents, who aren’t so bright anyhow, eat this up with a fork and spoon.

He’s articulate I guess, even when wrong.

Ronald Reagan once said that liberals weren’t necessarily lying, it’s just that they know so much that isn’t true. That’s the case here. Although if he’s not lying to further his causes, he really is that stupid.
