Odds & Ends

I’m off today for ‘Juneteenth‘ for my ‘day of reflection.

Yeah.

Well, I have things to do. So I’ll reflect on that.

Ran into this on the road the other day:

That there is a 1995 Camry, if my eyes aren’t mistaken. A 30 year old car. Those cars are indestructible. I had a ’94 with a 4 cylinder. It went over 200k. I have friends that had them at over 300k. This particular specimen didn’t appear to be in all that bad shape.

I think I’ve seen one in every neighborhood that I’ve lived the last 10 years.

It’s these cars that I came up with the thought that Camrys were like a homely girlfriend that can cook. She doesn’t make your heart go pitter-patter, but after awhile they are so reliable and treat you so well, you begin to love them.

Same trip. I ran into this:

The dashcam didn’t catch a lot of detail. But what that is is an old woman rocking up a rural highway, riding a bike, while holding up a weed whacker.

You don’t see that every day.

Caught this yesterday:

What a waste of time. Honestly, Tucker was being a pedantic cunt. Cruz was being an Israeli fanboi. We learned nothing. Just two mean girls having a slapfight.

The one thing they agreed on that in no way shape or form should our sons and daughters die for a war {that patently is not in our interest}. As with Ukraine, you can’t get a straight picture of what is actually happening. So no one knows much of anything. I’m annoyed Cruz couldn’t ballpark what sending a carrier group up there costs. He’s been in office long enough to know a rough number. Would it be worth it? Because later he went on about cost effectiveness of a response to Iran, knowing that they put a hit on Orangeman. He probably knows, but also knew he’d get killed flying into that particular box canyon.

I’m actually with Tucker and Bannon on this war. Let them fight it out. We shouldn’t be involved. Before we do much of anything, these guys need to explain why it’s in our interests other than the ‘…our greatest ally’ BS. They do what is in their interests, not always if ever, ours. If our interests align, say so. And I’m not buying the ‘regime change’ gambit. When we do this crap, we never consider who’s on deck to replace the current crowd. I’ve never seen it work in my lifetime. Matter of fact, it almost always has the opposite result than the one we were sold.

Vox Day has some interesting pieces on this:

And why is the USA so blustering while Russia and China are almost entirely silent. Something doesn’t add up here. – Vox Day

Indeed.

Zman had a piece where he spelled it out – Russia and Iran plan on a long grind. The people on the levers of power here won’t be able to outlast these two, for sure.

A better episode to watch is this one with Jefferey Sachs:

I agree with the guy. We have a bunch of incompetents entrenched in the state department and military that have had nothing but failures their whole careers, that have had disaster after disaster causing misery to millions, and trouble for us down the road.

He said the one thing all this has accomplished with Russia and Iran is that we’ve pretty much obliterated the possibility of a negotiated solution. He’s right. Why would either, and China (or anyone else) believe a word Trump says now? Putin’s term was ‘unreliable partner’. Yeah. That.

I’ve really had my fill of warmongering boomers. Mark Levin is probably the worst. Uber Anti Trump, now he’s a fanboi. Far as I’m concerned, he can send his kids and grandkids to go fight. Leave the rest of us out of it. I’m also sick of people like him spinning the killing of innocents as somehow noble. Sure, Israel had to take care of business with Hamas. But they killed thousands of innocents doing it. Millions are displaced with nowhere to go.

We have no idea how Gaza or Syria will work out. It won’t be good.

I read Divemedic’s piece on heatstroke, and took note. So what did I do last Friday? Ignored his advice and example. Friday is my rest/recover day. I do nothing but head to a good burger place and eat, then later head to dinner with the Girl.

What did I do instead? Went out and mowed the lawn. I decided to get some sun and mowed the back shirtless, although I wore a do-rag. I spent way more time than I should have and really didn’t hydrate properly. I drank water when I came back in. By night time I felt horrible. I had a hard time staying warm, yet I was sweating my ass off all night. Maybe it was sunstroke. May have been a bug, who knows. But it wasn’t until Tuesday that I was anywhere near 100%.

Maybe my recovery was a result of the curative effects of fried chiggin. I had a social event Monday night which featured a choice of fried chicken/chicken fried steak, mashed taters, salad, corn, green beans, biscuits, and banana pudding. Not exactly stuff on my diet.

I indulged. Went home, fell asleep, slept like a rock, and woke up Tuesday right as rain.

After I run or bike, I drink coconut water. It seems to work. But I went and bought rehydration stuff – drink mix and pills. I’m too old for this shit and need to pay better attention and need to hydrate properly when I’m out in the heat.

It’ll be a busy day. I have yard work again. First thing is to get two smelly dogs to PetSmart for a bath. I need to spend some time on the Mac, setting up a mailer service. Planned on going to the range. I’m betting I won’t get to it.

To much stuff to do, only a day to do it.

  2. Back when I used to cut the grass on my own in Cape Coral, FL I decided to try an experiment. Weighed my sorry arse before and after. Literally sweated off 6lbs. That’s a LOT of water. I would finish the job and fall in to the pool immediately after.”

I gave that up. Even though using a self-propelled push mower it was just too much for an older dude. Let the guys with the big ride-ons crank it out in 30 minutes. Used to take me two hours.
