It’s been a good month for working out.
I increased my lift weight all around. But also twinged my back. Not bad. Just sore. I wasn’t minding my form a few weeks ago and instead of giving things a break, I kept going. I figured I’d have a week off PTO, why not rest up then.
So that’s what I’ve been doing this week. Sleeping late, getting projects done here and there. I planned a motorcycle trip but it’s been cloudy most of the week with pop-up storms. I think tomorrow I’ll have a chance to scoot out.
My weight has not changed for three months. Last week I cut back on fruit and chocolate. I wouldn’t eat a lot, but more than I should. That said, I have noticeably more muscle mass. My exercise and diet regimen is is working.
I’m trying not to be as neurotic about working out. It’s been nice in the afternoons. This makes me think that maybe I should ride the bicycle, or even run. The compulsion is pretty strong. I can’t give into that at my age. I need time to recover. I meant to take a week rest each quarter. But it’s nearly June and I haven’t until this week. I won’t make that mistake this summer.
I’ve found myself only eating two meals a day this week. After breakfast, I’m not hungry enough to fool with lunch, so I skip it until later, then eat light for dinner. Sort of makes up for not working out, not that I’m thinking like that. I’m really not hungry.
So last night I splurged and went to Jason’s Deli. I’ve been jonesing for a Rueben, and I like the salad bar. Manager special covers it. Hell, a half sandwich there has nearly as much on it as a full one elsewhere. I hit up the free ice cream whilst I was at it.
While I was eating, and enormous dude was browsing the salad bar. Homey looked to be at least 400 lbs. Dude took 1/2 hour. I don’t think I’ve seen someone make a salad with almost no salad. He was getting it to go, and was filling up both halves of a to-go box. He shut the lid, shook it a bit, opened it back up for round two. There must have been 5 lbs of stuff in it. He finally shut the lid. But then grabbed a drink cup and filled it. Then the dressing cups.
Then he stuffed a dozen mini-muffins in a bag. Tucked it all away in the to-go bag, considered the muffin bar, and got two more for the road. My first thought was jeezis, if you want to eat a salad to be healthy and lose weight, you need more actual salad. Skip the shredded cheese, bacon bits, potato salad, pasta salad. Then I realized, he was simply taking advantage and grazing.
Reminded me of a far side cartoon back in the day with two workers looking over an empty salad bar – “He said he was on a diet, then wiped out the salad bar”
