Get ‘er done

I’ve been driving around with a ceiling console door missing a door since I bought my truck.

No biggie.

Finally I got to me and I went to find a replacement. Turns out most interior parts for my 25 year old truck are mostly unobtainium. Far as I can tell, F-250s don’t come with ceiling consoles. Not that I saw. Everywhere I looked, even the dealer parts sites said nope. F-250 and F-350 pickups are all over Texas. But Excursions are rare ducks.

So I had to go to EvilBay.

Damn, you can get about any part you want there. Found one. It was $120. But it was there.

I’d have shown how to install it, but it clicked right in.

(Although I had to bend the steel spring tabs back in shape and look on YouTube. My service manual didn’t have it)

Such a small thing. Such a treat to have the shades stored there.

Absolutely love this truck. Gas mileage blows. But since I’ve moved, I spend a fraction of the dough I used to spend on gas.

Still looking for a project car. I’m all over the place there.

Watch me wind up with an old F-250 or 350 with a powerstroke. N+1 here.

  1. Evilbay. I like it. I’ve been a fan of Evilbay (now I’m stuck with that happy misnomer and thank Ye) for a very long time. Hell, I’ve even successfully used it as a SEARCH ENGINE.

Almost reminds me of a sign that used to hang in a neighborhood hardware store: “If we aint GOT it, you don’t NEED it!”

Search for something you need and BINGO there it is!

Then, suddenly you find yourself confronted with myriads of OTHER things you didn’t know you NEEDED… but THERE THEY ARE. And you’re dealing with a deep-seated NEED…. and a “Buy it NOW” radio button….

An amazing resource… with a very dark side.

If you’ve not yet entered the word “GUITAR” in an Evilbay search… DO NOT.

Believe me, no good will come of it.

    1. I’ve bought more than a few guitars and basses on eBay. There’s a method to it. For sure, you need a lot of images, and especially one with the serial and place of manufacture.

I’d search for Guitar project. I’ve bought and repaired some great guitars. At least 3 vintage Ovations. I scored a tobacco sunburst balladeer with a bad preamp for $150. It was a stunning instrument with a flawless action.

Those days are long gone. Saw a balladeer on it the other day with a cracked tone board (a common problem with them) “for parts”. Fool wanted nearly $400 for it. Last one like that I bought I paid like $50.

  2. Ebay is where I look first. Needed a optical disk drive for my new macbook. Really the only thing that works as you’d want is the discontinued apple Superdrive. On ebay for $35. Other places wanting $100-200. Bought several motorcycle parts there as well. Never a problem.

    1. It’s where I go for laptops. Corporations do a refresh and the old machines make their way to the market. I had a think pad T431s I got for $180. Same model I was using at work. Had it years. When it blew up, I replaced it with a T450s for $140.

I’m 80% certain I’m going to get a MacBook. But there aren’t any deals there. All of them appear to be Intel chipped. The newer ones are only a few shekels cheaper than new or Apple refurbs.

      1. Yeah, had to get a deal on a macbook, but I’ve never had a problem with any apple products. and to make it worse they really do charge too much to bump the ram and storage up from the base model levels.
