From Gran Torino:
I didn’t notice – in that movie, he has a Winston! That’s me, sitting on the patio with a big yellow lab. It was also me scrubbing the hooptie:

Got dust and water spots from the sprinkler. But it’s clean inside after removing a few pounds of dog hair.
That there is a 25 year old truck. It runs smooth as butter. It’s comfortable, and rides well.
Earlier in the week, I was fueling up and thought to check the oil. It was low. Real low. What the hell? It burns a quart or so between oil changes, which I do at 3000 miles. Wait…when did I do the last change?
Turns out, 5500 miles ago. Whoops. Back in September, before I moved. I may have done it at 3000, but I didn’t record it anywhere. All I have is that in September, I changed the oil and rotated tires. I have a dim recollection of changing oil without a tire rotation. But that’s all I have. Normally, I use a p-touch and put mileage I changed oil, and mileage to change it next. Didn’t.
So I changed the oil. It’s easy on this rig. You can crawl under the truck. The drainplug and filter are right next to each other. It’s simple to do, and I keep stocked with oil and filters. It takes 6 quarts.
It seems like projection, but for some reason cars run better when they are clean with fresh oil.
I keep looking at a second car, even as a spare. But since I no longer live in Plano, and head out here every weekend, my fuel bill is lower and another car on my insurance will be more than any kind of savings I’d get. And that’s if I paid cash.
So screw it. It’s getting nice enough to ride the hotrod bike every day. That’ll be my second ride.
As annoying as the “Service due in 678 miles” message on startup can be on my 2019 Hyundai IS… This aulde geezer as much as he keeps RECORDS of such things actually does find it somewhat useful. No less annoying… just a tad useful.
Seeing as my commute went from 400 miles a week when up north to 92 a week as a semi-retired CAD Jockey here in SW FL the interval time-wise has changed significantly. During peak driving season I was changing oil every six weeks in the “Old Life” and that was WITH riding the motorcycle as often as season would allow.
And burning through vehicles? Eesh. It’s actually nice having one now that I procured new in 2018 that has less than 50K miles on the clock. I used to put that on in less than two years in the “Old Life”.
Thinking on THAT right about now… Hmmm… I probably should check the thickness on the brake pads….. :-O
