It was cold as shit this week. Super cloudy and blustery on Wednesday. Thursday was sunny and I had to get these guys out for a walk. They were driving me nuts.
The vet is right. These northern European breeds thrive in the cold.
Not me though.

BTW, this neighborhood is bristling with cats. Although it’s gotten better, some are still stupid enough to walk in front of the front window where the Dogs like to hang out.
I made the mistake of saying “Wherezacat!?” as we were about to go inside. They damn near tore my arms off. They didn’t know where the cat was (there wasn’t one), but they knew where they always show up.
LOL… Yeah, when I lived in PA and would walk the three Boxers all I had to do was say “Deer!”
Being brachycephalic and very short-haired they didn’t take to the cold, nor the HEAT when we relocated to SW FL.
The one time in PA when we were walking and an EXTREMELY large bear exited the woods… walked in to the road directly ahead of us…. ALL of us stopping in our tracks.
The dogs BRISTLED… and I mean EVERY hair on them… The bear? He decided it would be in his best interest to just mosey on along (THANKFULLY).
I’m sure you’ve seen your doggos looking “PROUD” right? Boy were they three BADASSES after THAT!

had a roadie that was stupid in the snow. he would stay out until he was almost frozen.
and even then I had to drag his ass in. My neighbor used to plow up mounds for him to play in.
he was death to any racoon stupid enough to get anywhere near the house. really great with little kids though. any little kids. one neighbor across the road used to call me to “come get my dog”
as Slim wouldn’t let him bring HIS kids in to eat supper. for all of that. his wife told me later she never worried about her girls outside with Slim. he was a outstanding watch dog.
and now with the snow outside we miss his big goofy ass even more. he used to flop in front of the woodstove after I dragged him in. he stay there until steam was coming off him.
and then he wanted to go back out AGAIN. so, yup. 110 pounds of bone muscle and a lot of heart. funny thing. he left the outside cats alone. just walked right by them like they didn’t matter
to him. never saw him try to chase deer. he just watched them leave like.

Any Dog that considers CATs to be unworthy of even a sideways glance… gotta love ’em. My last guy, a Valley Bulldog (Boxer / English Bully mix) was the same way. Iguanas however…. OMG!!!! Downside was he made zero distinction between Iguanas and Gators….

Slim was a pound hound. didn’t even know what breed he was until the vet told us. and God was he thin and anything when I picked him out or he picked me out
as he went nuts when we walked by his cage. we went there to get her a CAT too.
didn’t get one, but we brought him home instead. and after the first vet trip. that is when we found out he was a ridgeback. plus the ridge started to show on him.
1st trip, he weigh like 15-18 pounds and year later he was close to 90 pounds !
by age 2, he was filled out at 110 pounds easy. quick as anything I ever saw too.
killed his first of many racoons that year too. from start to finish was less than a minute. he darted one way and the coon reacted and he turn sort of and got him by the throat and SNAP it was over. he did “shake it” a few more times to be sure I guess. check him out and couldn’t find a mark or anything on him ?
wife was kind of worried about the outside cats. we have 6-8. long story.
anyway, no slim never paid them no mind. just walked right by them all the time.
14 years was not long enough really.
