That hit Home

I pondered a bit whether to post this at all. DeWayne has a tremendous sense of clarity, and an awesome delivery style. He’s done this to me once or twice, where he comes along and leaves me gape jawed.

He’s reflecting on one of St. Paul’s letters (1 Corinthians, I believe) but he delves back into the old testament here and there.

That said, here it is. He ramps up at 14:00 or so, so that’s where I’ll start it, although it’s worth watching the whole thing

Many great points

Some of you said “I left my husband because he abused alcohol. If you call yourself a Christian, how can you justify that?…Well he won’t go to AA. Well will he go to AA when you aren’t there to encourage him? When you’re not there to be a loving influence on him? To be his comfort? to be anything to him?

Who told you that you have a right to pursue your own personal happiness at all costs?

…How happy do you think Christ is when his bride (the Church) neglects him, and disobeys him..the Church today…If Christ is our example, and Christ will not leave us or forsake us, How can we justify leaving or forsaking our bride, or groom, when they make us unhappy?

..it says you married her, [you are commanded to] you love her. Full Stop…it didn’t add any ifs, ands, or buts.

He points out that in Paul’s letter, it doesn’t command the wife to love her husband. It calls on her to be submissive and follow him. Not obey, though. She is to obey God.

You know Dewayne, I been praying over this situation for a long time and God hasn’t answered. God didn’t say, and never says, I will answer right now. Sometimes God lets things happen so you can find the grit to get through the hard times.

‘…Those who have ears and hear…I will have mercy and not sacrifice’…What does that mean?…It means he would rather you have loving mercy on a fellow human being than go an give another religious sacrifice. If your religious sacrifice…could be going to Church ten times a week… If that religious sacrifice is not showing mercy to a fellow human being, and not showing obedience, then he don’t want it.

The crux of that last quote can be found in Isaiah as well, where God so much as says if you aren’t righteous, or rather a hypocrite, he doesn’t care one bit about your sacrifices and prayers to him. That concept flows throughout the entire bible, old and new testaments.

There’s a lot to unpack in that video. He even says as much, as well as says once you understand it, accepting it is even harder. Don’t know. Made sense to me. I found it super helpful.

I’ve never read books, articles, heard from therapists, priests, or pastors that spoke with that kind of clarity. Would have been helpful a few years ago, but it’s what it is I suppose. A couple ‘dots’ lined up for me in the past months that left me with a surprising revelation, which I won’t share. But it made total sense when it hit me, explained the last one I had, and relates totally to some of the concepts he explains in this video.
