Haven’t done one of these in a minute.
Now that I’m settled, I can get back on track with my fitness regimen. It took a bit of a battering over the holidays, especially with the move.
My weight is right where it’s been for over a year. A little heavier, thanks to the holidays. I’ve had some skipped days. This last Monday, for instance. The temperature dropped to the 20s with a wind chill in low teens. The wind was stiff. Sorry, my old ass isn’t getting on a bicycle in that. I got a run in Tuesday. Skipped the ride in Wednesday. It was still too cold for my old ass. But today, it’s cold, shitty, and icy. That’s a big nope for running. Maybe I make it up tomorrow. I’m over 60. I don’t need to be a fanatic about this sort of thing.
I have a great bike path to ride and I’ve mapped out a circuit to run in my neighborhood. Each circuit is .75 miles. I did 5 laps Tuesday. That’s my new run, just under 4 miles. I have my weights arranged in the garage where I can spool up my lifting again. I need to.
Turns out there’s a rec center at the edge of my neighborhood. Who knew? Seems nice, but has no weights at all. Shame. There’s also a YMCA not too far away, but it doesn’t appear to have free-weights either, other than dumbbells and kettle weights. It may be worth it to use the cardio gear when it’s too cold to be outside. But, there’s really only a month left of this. Next week will be 20 degrees warmer.
The other aspect to health is mental. Something I don’t spend enough time on, to be honest. That said, every week I’m here, I have some confirmation that this move was a really, really good thing to do. It hit me at mass Saturday night. My watch was wrong, so I had to scramble to get there. The parking lots were jammed. Yet, true to form for a Catholic Church, there was plenty of seating in the first three pews. I’m not shy. So I strolled up and sat down in a nearly empty row up front. As I sat there, I had a feeling I haven’t had in years. Three at least.
Peace and Happiness.
It was awesome.
