Getting Settled

It was a long weekend, and a busy week.

I hadn’t planned on having to clean the old house, but that’s what needed to be done to get my security deposit back Sunday. Slumlord is holding the pet deposit based on final cleaning (meaning all the crap I stuffed in the garage.) Most of it is moved or in storage. I need to wrap things up. I’ll be up there today for a doctor appointment, so I’ll swing by and grab what needs grabbing.

At the new place, all the furniture was put where I wanted it. The SleepNumber bed fired up and worked Sunday night. I had most of what I needed in place to get rolling at work Monday morning. Except interweb. That dude showed up Monday. And by Monday afternoon, I still had nothing. Dude said it was my router. Yeah. That’s an old, old story that I’ve been through before.

He left anyhow, and I fiddled for a few hours before lighting up on Customer Service:

A new dude came out Tuesday, spent 15 minutes and I was up. First guy didn’t activate my new modem. Turns out he was a contractor. Sucks to be him. He’ll be written up for that and for running the cable along top of my gutters. That’ll have to be fixed.

The dogs are loving this. Lots of room to play:

The yard is huge. I live on a corner lot, 1/4 acre, and the house is small.

By comparison, here’s the old yard:

I’ve been checking out the area. A trail head to a very cool running/biking track is less than a mile away. Unlike the old one in Plano, this one winds along a creek, and through a treed park. Outstanding ride on a bike. I can’t wait to get the pups out on it to explore. The other thing with this trail is it has honest-to-god hills, as does the area in general. So cool.

I mapped out a new running route, which appears to be longer than my old one. Interestingly, it’s small town rural; older houses and no sidewalks.

And the people are cool. I’ve already had a few neighbors stop by and introduce themselves.

The house is nice, and cozy. No drafts like the other one. It’s cheaper too. House is cool, town is cool, people are cool. And it’s 15 minutes to the Girl’s house.

This was a good move. Totally worth it.

  1. Nice. Since it’s DOG approved you’re GOLDEN. And what are these HILLS you speak of? You refer to actual changes in ELEVATION???? And by “winds”… you mean the path of travel actually changes direction from a ruler straight?????

Suffice it to say, living in SW FL for the past 12 years, those are concepts that while not quite “foreign” to me, are surely novel. “Twisties” were what we called the winding roads of the Pocono Mountains of PA where nary a vehicles tires left the pavement. It was pure joy on a motorcycle.

Google “Hawks Nest” Port Jervis, NY. THAT’s motorcycling….

Here in SW FL where the majority of pathways are arrow straight and pancake flat the most common “incidents” are… ROLLOVERS. Followed by “Car in Canal” (I saw a ring video of one of those yesterday.) or “Car vs Building”.

As to “Tech” installs… I agree, why is it you almost ALWAYS have to call in a second string to either FINISH or CORRECT an install. Xfinity “upgraded” all the systems in the community to Single Mode Fiber. When they did ours, the FAX line (ENDLESS MEDICAL USE) did not work nor did the “on screen caller ID” (TV popup). They had to send ANOTHER two techs to fix that.

All they did was talk via cellphone to the “mother ship” to correct the problem.

Why they sent ANYONE… never mind TWO I will never know.

CONGRATS on a successful re-location. Sounds like for the most part it went well!
