Working for the Weekend

It’s been a busy, busy week.

The course I’m developing is due to be presented at the big convention in a few weeks. I’ve been tapped to teach it live, as well as an additional breakout session.

Lovely.

I wonder what it’ll cost to deal with the dogs. I can’t expense that.

I did the course in a fancy AI cloud tool. I found it’s suggestions only marginally useful. It seemed to me more like Word or WordPress. The only suggestions it had were for grammar, and most of those screwed up the point of the text. It doesn’t understand technology. Clearly. The idea is that I can then publish it in a number of formats. So we use FrameMaker. I have to export to Word, then get it into FrameMaker and apply our templates.

The FrameMaker part is easy. The fact that it gooched the formatting in Word isn’t. Garbage in/Garbage out. I have to fix the garbage before I can use it. Lovely.

To make matters worse, I stupidly did the whole thing as one course, as opposed to one per chapter. There isn’t a good way to bust it up. Worse yet, it’s supposed to generate PowerPoints for the instructor. It did a so-so job, but it paraphrased a bunch, and did it poorly. So… Yeah…

There is no free lunch, it seems. We’ll see if it saves any time.

So I have ton of work to do in the next two weeks.

This on top of renting a new place to live. I got a good one, right where I want to be. But I forgot how much BS is involved in this process. Hopefully that wraps up next week. The week before Thanksgiving, I’ll be out in Las Vegas. If all works well, I’ll start moving the Friday after.

Time to get some boxes.
