Whelp…The big news this week is that you can’t be packing at the Great State Fair of Texas this year. Just like in the movie “Unforgiven”. Wonder if Gene Hackman will be at the gates checking for iron.
Judge Emily Whatzernuts decreed so by dumping an injunction AG Paxton sought.
A Dallas judge says the State Fair of Texas can enforce its new policy banning guns from the fairgrounds, rejecting an attempt by the state’s attorney general to overturn it, claiming it violates state law.
Judge Emily Tobolowsky, with Dallas’s 298th District Court, said after noon on Thursday that the State Fair’s policy was legal and that she was denying the injunction filed last month by the office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. – NBCDFW

At issue here is that Fair Park, where the fair is held, is in Dallas, and is owned by the city of Dallas who cannot deny an LTC holder on city property.
But the state fair is a private entity, which generally can declare whatever policy they want regarding concealed carry.
Give AG Paxton his due. He doesn’t shy away from controversy. Ever.
In a general sense, it’s a very un-Texan thing to do. Texas is a very armed, very carry friendly state.
In the past, the fair permitted individuals possessing a valid Texas License to Carry or Concealed Handgun License to bring their firearms into the fairgrounds. However, following a shooting in the food court in October 2023 that injured several individuals, the fair’s board decided to revise the policy.
This revision aimed to prohibit most people from bringing weapons into the fairgrounds. – NBCDFW
Ahhhhh…a knee jerk reaction to be sure. First off, it’s not ‘in the past’ it’s ‘always and forever before has’. As I understood from the radio this morning, there was a separate line for LTC. Don’t know. I didn’t notice the one time I went, because in TX it’s not a thing.
This all started because two or more of the Indigenous Population (IP) had an…..uh…moment in the food court and started blazing away. So, of course, it’s licensed carry holders at fault. Though I doubt the IP in question had a permit. If memory serves, I don’t think he was old enough to even have a gun.
So banning LTC holders will, of course, make things safer. The Indigenous Population will take note and leave their gat at home. Sure. Wonder what the over/under is on another shootout?
I’ve been, once. And the only reason is it was free because my daughters were dancing in an exhibition there. I have no plans to go. I have no plans to be in Fair Park for any reason. I have no plans to go south of 635 and North Dallas. I have plans to get the hell outta here, TBH.
You see, Fair Park is in a shitty section of town. The only safe way to get there is to drive and enter the compound (it’s a compound, with controlled entrances) and park. One could take the DART, I suppose. The green line stops off right in front of a gate. But then, you have to be on the green line, and from here, you’d get there on the red line and transfer at Pearl St. Station.
No Bueno.
Last time I did that was at the Irish Festival. We left later on at night. I thought, for sure, I’d be in a fight before we hit CityPlace. I vowed never to do that again without a gun and a knife on me.
This is old ground I’ve covered before.
By the way, I used to install cable in some of the worst places in DC and the surrounding areas. This area is several orders of magnitude worse. Our little slice of Bawlmer, in my opinion.
This will probably have an effect on attendance. Those that won’t go because they won’t feel safe (a ‘just’ feeling, btw), those that won’t go because the Fair organization is being douchy, and those that may have gone at night, going in the daylight. And why not? It’s a miserable drive, through a crappy area, confiscatory parking fees, overpriced and super unhealthy food and drink, and a greater than zero chance of being in a crossfire.
Like I said, won’t effect me whatsoever.
