Glorious

Fall ushered in early in DFW with rain last week, followed by a cold front, roughly 2-3 weeks before usual. It was spectacular all weekend and well into today. 60s in the morning, maybe 85 to 90 end of day, with zero humidity. The dogs were high energy today on our walk. They are cold weather dogs, and mope when it’s hot in the mornings. This morning, it was dewy, and other houses lawns were wet from watering. Lot’s of stuff to sniff. They are loving this.

Bad thing is, since it wasn’t warm and we had rain not to long ago, the back yard was still wet from the sprinklers last night, and the dogs tracked dirt everywhere. I’m still dealing with it. That’ll teach me open the dog door way early in the morning when I get up to take a leak.

It’s said that Texas has 12 seasons:

  • WINTER
  • FOOL’S SPRING
  • SECOND WINTER
  • SPRING OF DECEPTION
  • THIRD WINTER
  • THE POLLENING
  • ACTUAL SPRING
  • SUMMER
  • HELL’S FRONT PORCH
  • FALSE FALL
  • SECOND SUMMER
  • ACTUAL FALL

That’s not altogether true. Hells Front Porch breaks sometime in August, and it’ll be hot, but not oppressively so. We’re in False Fall now. End of the week it’ll be hotter, but it isn’t predicted to get more than 90 or so. I’ve been here when after a weekend like this we get blasted for a week before the cool air sticks.

I liken it to someone flipping the switch off on the blast furnace. Two weeks ago, it was hot, but not triple digits. This weekend, bang, the heat is gone. It’ll warm a bit, but the heat is mostly gone for good. Towards the end of the week it’ll be hot, so they say, but the mornings and evenings will be cool. That’s the difference.

In June or July next year, it’ll be like someone hit the switch and it’ll be excruciating for a few months.

That said, it’s been pretty mild, regardless of the transplant locusts complaining. We haven’t had a real Texas summer around here in years. It’ll come, though.

I just wish it would show up and roast these guys back to whence they came.
