A couple sites I read bounced off the same topic, a historian re-imagining World War 2. In this case, a guy by the name of Darryl Cooper. I first saw it on Vox Popoli, with this excerpt:
My intention here is not to defend the actions of the Third Reich or any of its leaders, but only to support a narrow claim: that of all the belligerent leaders, Churchill was the one most intent on prolonging and escalating the conflict into a world war of annihilation. Germany and Italy did not want it – in fact, before the conquest of Western Europe, German leaders including Hitler were skeptical that they’d be able to take on Britain in a fight. We can be skeptical of Hitler’s motives for offering peace again and again, and for holding back against British civilians despite months and months provocations, but the fact is that Germany was offering peace, and by all accounts sincerely wanted it – Darryl Cooper
Vox’s Take:
I’ve read Churchill’s own history of WWII. And his own justifications for his actions don’t add up even in his own words. The most damning evidence is his waging of a unilateral, one-way air war against German civilians immediately after the German military forces spared the trapped British soldiery at Dunkirk. – Vox Day
I’ve read this before. Both that the Germans didn’t want war, and that Churchill was quite a warmonger.
Right on queue, Stephen Greene on PJ Media had a case of the vapors that the dude was on Tucker Carlson. Seems Senor Cooper isn’t big on the joos. I read over the thread linked on Vox. I’m not big on conspiracy theories. Dude seems to think the Jews were spoiling for a fight and wanted the world to fight that fight. I don’t see it.
This is ground that was already tread by Pat Buchanan in his book “Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary war” in 2008, I believe. Buchanan made a compelling case. He was wrong, but a couple of side theses to the story ring true. Churchill was a warmonger. He documents his career from start to finish. Turns out, they needed one, the story of which was told by Victor Davis Hansen. His other thesis was that without an entangling alliance with Poland, Britain wouldn’t have been compelled to war before it was ready. It is interesting that this was the first war in history that punished innocents. When Churchill came to power, he started off bombing Germany at night and hitting all manner of civilians. Even if it were that night bombing was a crap shoot, innocents lost lives and property. Much more so than the German weapons manufacturers.
From my recollection, one of the points Buchanan was making, which I believe he spelled out in an epilogue, was that it was warmongers and these entangling alliances were leading us down the road to perdition today. I remember him asking just what we were planning to do about something like Russia’s incursion into South Ossetia? Why were we meddling in Georgia? What are we going to do, send our guys 6000 miles to fight?
Would you send your son there? Or Ukraine?
“A quarrel in a faraway land between people of which we know nothing.” – Neville Chamberlain in 1938
We see this same thing happening now with Ukraine. We have our warmongers, they have their boogieman – Putin, and an entangling alliance – NATO. They see the man as literally Hitler, putting words in his mouth he never said, and attributing actions that he hasn’t promised, done, or even hinted he’d do. The Russians have been pretty constrained and clear about what they are doing and why and what will happen if we don’t cut the shit out.
I don’t think I’ve seen one war in my lifetime that would be considered just. Nearly all of them I’ve seen, from Vietnam to Ukraine is the end result of us, the baddies, meddling in others affairs. I would say Afghanistan was just, maybe, but that wasn’t a war initially. We went there and clobbered the Taliban, and hunted for Bin Laden. It wasn’t a war until Obama made it one.
With Ukraine, we meddled in 2014 for no other reason, it seems, than to create a money laundering operation for our politicians and a vehicle where we could do stuff that would be against the law here. Anyone remember the bio-labs that turned up there in the beginning of this mess? Yup, Down the memory hole that went.
We created an enormous Mos Eisley.
“You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious” – Obiwan Kenobe
This will not end well. Russia appears to have changed gears, flattening the training center where the Ukrainians were learning a Swedish AWACS platform. There will be no game changers. Russian already has two named Kinzhal and Zircon.
Yet, even when you see how things are going there, and the fact that the Russians were pretty clear that if their homeland was attacked with NATO weapons, they’d return the favor, our guys are still spoiling for a fight. All fun and games until your one munitions plant, or your one fancy missile plant, gets a visit from Mr. Kinzhal.
By the way, if you want to cleanse your palate of historical nitwittery, watch Victor Hansen and Christopher Hitchens discuss Pat Buchanan’s book, and the theory that war could’ve been avoided and the Jews spared.
