TowRolla update

Don’t know why I can’t get the TowRolla out of my head.

Who doesn’t like a beater Toyota?

So I’ve been idly searching eBay and Craigslist. I found one likely candidate:

Not a too terrible deal. I think it’s in Orange County CA though. But what caught my eye in the search results were these two beauties:

That there is a ’78. They want like $6900 for it. I actually had one of these that I bought in 1991 when I needed some cheap wheels. I paid $125 for it. Put some new tires and a muffler on it and it was golden. At least until I wrecked it. Hit a dude in a Datsun beater and totaled both cars, for a grand total of maybe $500 damage between the two. Was a good ride when I had it.

They want like $10K for this wagon. Now that is sort of a cool car. Can’t find the link. It may have been on craigslist. I think it’s nuts to buy that old a Toyota, although there is something cool about driving a car that’s internals are simple as a butter churn.

I’m guessing parts may be an issue.

I still think prices are too high. I did figure out that if I changed my insurance for the truck, the math works for a beater. It’ll still have to wait. I’m planning on moving from the dump house I live in to better/cheaper digs. Don’t want the complication of another set of wheels to move.

  1. before you buy anything like this, check out Rock auto to see what kind of parts can still be had for your new toy. have a 1994 4 runner myself and getting some parts are a lot harder to find these days. and no, it not for sale. just had the engine rebuilt last year to get some more power out of it

as it has been sitting for close to 7 years before now.

    1. I’d get another 4Runner if I could find one with less than a jillion miles on it. Btw parts was the selling point for me and the excursion. It’s mostly an F-250.
