I’m with Denniger here, about software:
There’s a quite-serious problem with the shift we’ve seen in software over the last decade or so.
In short: You can’t buy it anymore, only get a subscription.
The “buy it” system typically worked like this: You paid for each “seat” you wished to use at once. One butt, pair of eyeballs and pair of hands, one license. Most companies let you install the software on a limited number of devices (e.g. two — since you might have a laptop and a desktop, or one computer at the office and another in your home office) but you could only use one at a time and this was enforced by having the system “check in” with some online location when in use. Over time if you tried to cheat (e.g. give your activation code to 10 people) you’d get caught and the system would lock people out.
I hate being made into an annuity. This is why I find myself using Linux more and more.
Got this in the mail from NTTA:

I could save with a tolltag? They won’t sell me one. I had to link that license tag to my truck account. There is nothing on their site, nothing, that says anything about bikes. I need to research more. I think they aren’t supposed to be charged. And my call was to ‘Lecia’, a lackadaisical woman. That’s being gracious as I can be.
“After tonight’s events I have come to the realization that I no longer want any association whatsoever with any liberals. None. Not in the community, not at church, not anywhere. The reasons for this decision are rooted in the belief that being around these people poses a threat to our sanity, safety, and families. First and foremost, the constant bombardment of liberal ideologies and beliefs has become a source of mental and emotional exhaustion. The never-ending debates, the constant need to defend our values, and the relentless pressure to conform to their worldview have taken a toll on our mental well-being. These people are insane and in associating with them we allow their madness to infect us. The safety of our families and communities is at risk when we associate with liberals. The liberal narrative often promotes a sense of victimhood, division, and chaos, which leads to violent protests, property destruction, and even physical harm to those who dare to oppose their views as we witnessed tonight. We must prioritize the safety and well-being of our loved ones by distancing ourselves from those who subscribe to such destructive ideologies. Get and stay far away from these” – Andrew Torba, owner of Gab
I’m with him. Got no time for that.

Hi Himself,
Thank you for placing your mobile order in the McDonald’s app—here’s your receipt. We hope you enjoy your food as much as we enjoyed preparing it.
As if there is a team of cheery oompa-loompas in the kitchen.
You don’t need a conspiracy when the institutional players are a toxic brew of dumb and hateful. Wednesday Morning Rant —Joe Mannix at Ace
A guy named Hung Cao speaks at the republican convention:
“My name’s Hung Cao, and America saved my life… I’m running against Hillary’s running mate, Sen. Tim Caine.” The crowd booed, and Cao emphasized, “Caine is a weak man in a dangerous world”
Says it all doesn’t it? He’s like many Vietnamese I’ve met that came to Northern VA after the war.
Biden has the coof. His posse hasn’t forgotten that they want him gone, it turns out. No idea what’s going on and you can’t believe one word you read. I would not be surprised in the least if there were a day of the pillow coming. After the failed hit on OrangeMan, they know he’s doomed. They are simply trying to save the down-ballot. Going to get weird. Get some popcorn.
What’s it take to be fired in DC these days? You can’t. Maybe if you say there’s only two genders or that Marriage is between a man and a woman.
Microsoft starts spilling DEI blood. Lot of companies are doing this. When I see a company, especially one I work for, doing dumb things like DEI instead of hiring on merit, My first thought is to wonder how this makes us money. Apparently, it doesn’t.
Kenny had a funny post on voles. The vidya is here. When we bought our first house, it had mice and moles all over the back yard. We adopted two kittens from my sister (who adopted their mom, a feral) and named them George and Gracie. In no time at all, the entire yard, and that of our neighbor’s was nearly rodent free. That includes squirrels, rabbits, the occasional pet hamster someone lost, and many birds. It got to the point where the kids would look out the side door to see what the cat’s left that day, or what was left of it.
Vox Day has a piece about a graduating gamma on sigmagame. Controlling diet is the first step, and probably the easiest, to building discipline that will translate to other areas of your life. Diet is the biggest way to get fit. I had a doctor tell me that the closer it is to how God created it, the better it is for you. Baked potato, rather than chips, fries, or mashed. Better yet, have a sweet potato instead. Less carbs. Mind your calories and don’t snack. Realize that it’s easier to not eat that 250 calories than it is to exercise it off. Was that bag of chips worth 45 minutes on an elliptical?
I’d add that you should refrain from alcohol. A few drinks at happy hour can ruin a whole days dieting and if you are approaching 30, a blood sugar and A1C test would be a good idea. You may be in even worse shape than you think.
As an older gentleman who started back into fitness at 59, I can say that if you are over 40 you can do nearly anything a younger man can do – lift weight, run, bike, anything. You just can’t do it as much or as intense. Start slow, and work up. Run up and down the street four times. Then five. Then six, then around the block. Start with light weight and concentrate on range of motion and form. Then work up. as you get fit, it gets easier and easier. You will find your body craving exercise.
But you have to listen to your body more as an older man. When I’m bench pressing, or doing curls and my repaired rotator cuff starts screaming, I stop. Learn to live with modest gains. It’s more the business of improving and keeping what you have.
Been a super busy week. I forgot to harvest funny memes. We’ve had rain with a cold front here this week, so it’s low 90s, sunny with no humidity this weekend. Have a great weekend. Mine will be, for sure.
