Hurricane Hunkering

Hurricane Beryl wandered around the gulf and went north to the motherland – Texas.

Houston and other cities got a beating. We got little, as usual. These things tend to peter out before they hit DFW. So what we get is a welcome rain day in what is usually a dry summer:

It barely made 80 degrees today. Last week, we got a respite from the triple digits and had a warm, sunny, dry weekend. This has been an exceptionally rainy and mild summer so far. Typically, we’d be weeks into a triple digit beating that wouldn’t break until nearly September.

We may still get fried. But for now, it’s been nice.

So, in honor of Beryl, what’s left of it – Beryl, by Mark Knopfler:

  1. Daughter lives in Brookshire. About 45 mins west of Houston. Was away for the storm on a planned vacation. Currently stranded in VA. Her yard is under water… but it’s not yet up the the threshold of the house.

She’s a tad panicked to get home and I’m thinking… to do what? SWEAT?

BUT… having sat in a hurricane shelter wondering what you may… or may not have standing when you return, I totally understand her angst.

Particularly for Hurricane Ian. I missed losing everything by a mere 12 inches of surge.
