Daddy has a new pair of shoes

My daughter and son-in-law are hooked into some crazy auction sites. They pick up stuff, all sorts of stuff, stupidly cheap and resell it. Kind of a hobby.

I was over the other day, and they gave me a pair of biking shoes. One of like eighty they picked up. Since I have mutant wide feet, I pretty much gave up on bike shoes and had flat pedals on the bicycle. Same thing with the motorcycle shoes. None appear to be made in daffy duck wide.

But this pair by Nike fit.

No idea what the model is. They have no writing anywhere.

I had to get pedals and cleats. I chose the Shimano SPD-SL peddles. They came with the cleats. I don’t have the model, but they were on Amazon for like eighty bucks. Bolted right on.

It took a little time to get used to riding with them. They will pop off if you lift your foot straight up. But there’s a tiny delay until you get free, so you damn near fall over. Twist to the outside and they pop right off. Anticipation is the key here, as well as muscle memory.

One thing I noticed is they appear to allow me to peddle more efficiently. I get more of a power stroke than when my foot is on a flat pedal. The other thing I noticed – right away -is they cause me to use muscles in my calves and thighs I wasn’t previously using much. I noticed it riding, but it didn’t manifest in soreness after. So win-win here.

This is one of those things that you didn’t know you needed until you got them.
