Though a mixture of stupidity and inattention, I find myself off this week on PTO.
My company insists you allocate all vacation time, if not by March, then certainly by the start of a new fiscal year in July. Bosses all over the company get pelted with reminders to have their reports make this so.
And, I scheduled now for the end of the tax season, usually to go on a trip with the X Herself..
DOH.
By the time I realized that this week was coining up, it was too late to change. I already have time off in the next two months for the holidays. So what to do?
Mostly, I’m cleaning and readying this house to list and scouting new places to flee.
Problem is that I had a hernia repaired last week, so I can’t do any real lifting, and still have issues bending. Real tough to reach down with the bowls when I feed the hounds. I took them for a walk Saturday, and Winston got excited and ran around me, forcing me to hit myself in the guts. Pretty painful. But the only damage appears to be bruising (Which may even be natural).
I’ve had a number of friends ask me where I’m looking, which causes me to babble. The best answer I can give is small town Texas. Another good one would be out of the grey zone. Behond:

In that image, somewhere in the green zone. Probably northwest.
When I used to ride a motorcycle, (and soon will again), when you were out for a tour, you’d stay out of the grey areas. On a paper map, these are usually yellow. Regardless, off the highways and onto the secondary roads that pass through cool towns.
One of the writers at Cycle magazine wrote about this. He headed for the towns that were usually just a dot. He said you’d always find a gas station, a restaurant, and sometimes a hotel.
Makes sense to me.
I’m headed to a dot in the green zone.
Waxahachie sounds like a town here in FlawDUH. In fact, I’m pretty sure we have a Waxahachie here. It’s out of the Grey Zone, but I think when it comes to TX, north is the better move and only reason I brought it up was it jumped off the screen at me.
I gave up riding about a year after moving here. I had grand plans, I assure you. However, during the summer months, heat stroke was a real issue. When it’s cool enough to ride comfortably it’s downright suicidal with the “Seasonal” drivers. Hell, it’s dangerous enough in the cage.
Not to mention, pancake flat, arrow straight roads pretty much everywhere. I used to ride the twisties in the Poconos and NY State. It was gorgeous and big fun too.
On that note, what baffles the hell out of me considering the straight, flat conditions, I simply cannot fathom why SO many rollovers here. It’s like the state sport…. well, second only to hit-and-run.
Good luck with the upcoming move. It’s a LOT of work and a HUGE PITA having recently done it myself. Your major advantage? Doing it YOURSELF sans HERself.
As to the kinda, sorta unplanned PTO? Well… you _are_ recovering from the reconstruction, aye? Not to sound like one of those slogan slingers but sometimes they fit a little too well so Easy Does It seems apropos the moment.
