The other day I decided to take a trip to Operation Kindness, a local no-kill shelter close by. I’d been surfing their site for some time and found a few likely candidates for a boyfren for Aria.
I had two in mind.
First up was Chai:

What a sweet face!
A year and a half old or so, 65 lbs. Never met him. Turns out, young as he is, he has hip dysplasia. So sad. That’s more of a commitment than I can make now.
Next up was Joker:

Another year and a half old retriever mix. 74lbs, big and lanky like Jethro was at that age. And smart. Real smart, like both Jasper and Jethro. Someone spent some time training him as well. He knew more than a few commands.
This was the dude.
So they suggested I bring the girl to meet him.
So I went home, got the girl, and headed back. She was completely weirded out by all the attention in the waiting room, and even more so as we headed towards the kennels.
He was already in the yard when we walked up. The staff insisted they bring her in. She wanted no part of the slip lead they were trying to put on her. So they used my leash to bring her in. She didn’t want to be there one bit, and wasn’t interested in the boy whatsoever.
They let her loose and she ran to the gate and wanted out.
Joker came up to check her out and got a nip on the shoulder for his efforts.
No bueno. The staff workers were super nice about it.
I started laughing. It was probably for the best and it was like taking your daughter to a prison for an arranged marriage.
I’ll wait. She seems happy being and only dog.
