Get a load of this:

That is a Master Lock 178D combination lock, and a piece of shit.
That lock is maybe two months old. I think it’s rained here once, and the thing was seized up pretty good. I had to smack it a few times with a deadblow hammer for it to open up. That is the second Master combo lock that bit the dust in as many months.
No doubt it has chinesium guts. I went back to an ancient one I had that’s brass. The one before this was touted as an outdoor, all weather lock. It rusted and had the wheels stick with chinesium corrosion.
These days, I have to study a lock to make sure it’s working bits are brass before I buy. The only reason I don’t have a nice brass key lock is these are on the gates and I don’t always have my keys with me. And actual brass locks are hard to come by in stores around here.
Does no one make a quality lock any more?
Eeesh…. That’s inexcusable. Master was once THE standard when it came to locks. I suppose… one could liberally coat it with Silicone WD-40 prior to deployment. But that should not be necessary.
I did a quick search. COMMANDO locks are made in the US and look to be a darn good product. I can’t say as I own one, but I think should the need arise, I would procure one in the future.
