Can’t have anything nice around here.

The summer blast furnace has fired up, and it’s getting seriously hot around here. So gardening is challenging. I think I screwed up my cucumbers. Since I’ve been distracted by misery lately, I haven’t been picking cucumbers. I grew a snack variety, which you’re supposed to pick while they are small. By the time I got to them, they were big and fat, and yellow/green. Had to chuck out a bunch since they are bitter. Once you let the fruit linger on the vine, the vine shuts down. That’s OK. I’m up to my neck in cucumbers anyhow.

Planting tomatoes in pots turned out to be a good idea. I have a few turning red.

Timing is everything here. I have to nab them before the squirrels or bugs do. That’s how it is here, just as things get going, something will eat or otherwise run your hard work.

Speaking of which, behold:

That vine I moved from the compost pile was a punkin. I got one before the vine gave up. The thing was barely orange when something bored into it and ruined it. I went out today and it was rotten as hell, all deflated like a balloon.

The one thing that appears to be going bonkers is peppers and beets. I have more than I can possibly use and have started finding homes for them. For whatever reason, rodents don’t care for pepperoncinis and jalapenos. The jalapenos are Christmas light size. Won’t be long.

Mostly, I’m expecting things to go in a hibernation state as it heats up, returning when it dips back in to the 90s.
